I'm not sure if there is a connection with the Monroe Co., KY Devers/Deavers.

Arthur, Alva and James Devers were sons of Alexander Devers who was born in Garrard Co., KY in 1814. Alexander Devers parents were Nancy Maret Devers and John Dever of Garrard Co.

The Dever/Devers family moved to Clay Co., MO around 1830. They moved to Gentry Co., MO around 1850.

I have heard the Devers were originally from Virginia and at an earlier date were in Canada. I've also heard the original name was DeVier but I don't have any information on that, other than old family stories. I believe the father of John Dever was also named John Dever and there are two John Dever's listed in the 1820 Madison Co.,KY census. But I don't have any real information on him, other than he may have owned a mill around 1800 near what is now Paint Lick, KY., which is in Garrard Co., but borders Madison Co., KY.

It seems the last name "evolved" until they settled in Missouri. In VA it was supposedly DeVier. In KY it was Dever or Deavor and then in Missouri they settled in Devers.

Arthur, Alva and James Devers were my first cousins, four times removed. Their father, Alexander Devers, was a brother to my ggg grandfather, John Perry Devers.

Do you think there is a connection to your Deavers/Devers family? Also, can you share anything you may have heard about Arthur and Alva? The older sons of Alexander Devers were pro-Southern and Alva was the only survivor.
