Mo State Guard Question - Franklin Hunt

I have the following:
J. Franklin Hunt, Pvt. Co. F, 3 Missouri State Guards, CSA. POW roll for POW received and/or discharged at Gratiot St. Prison, week ending 10 Aug 1862 captured in Bates Co. MO on 11 April 1862 and received at Gratiot St. Prison 16 Aug 1862 and discharged to Alton Illinois Military Prison 7 Aug 1862. POW card for discharge from Alton upon taking the Oath of Allegiance 5 Sep 1862. Card enclosed in file for those sent to Vicksburg, MS for exchange 23 Sep 1862 with a notation “names cancelled.”
Carolyn M. Bartels, The Forgotten Men MISSOURI STATE GUARD, National Archives Source. (Two Trails Publishing, Shawnee Mission, Ks 1995), 178.

Frank Hunt lived until 1896, but was enumerated in 1880 as "crippled in war," Fannin Co. TX.

Can someone help me figure out if Frank joined a Union Unit after 23 Sep 1862, when he was listed among the "names cancelled."

I cannot find him in a unit after his taking the Oath of Allegiance. He and his family lived in Boone Co. IA in 1870. He doesn't show on the 1883 Vet Schedule nor the 1890 Vet Schedule. He may have remained an injured Confederate but I have not been able to determine this fact.

Appreciate any suggestions
