In the first letter posted in my original message, dated 13 June 1863, and addressed to Capt. C.H. Dyer, AGG, St Louis District, Lazear refers to the "Commanding General" in his request that the 12th Cav be ordered to make an expedition to Bloomfield...
Can anyone tell me the name of the commanding General referred to?
I am wondering if he set off on this expedition (which seems to be the expedition which culminated in the Mingo Swamp Massacre) based on standing orders to go after "guerillas" or if there was a specific order made re: this expedition.
