Yes, I guess it depended on circumstances. My Gr-Grandfather, Joseph Johnson, I don't think had any problems. I know after the war he returned to Madison
County, Missouri, then joined the Madison County Militia,
and basically picked up his life as a farmer, and went
on with his life. I think though that the ex-Confederates
were watched, because I came across a paper dated 1913,
that was titled "Ex- Confederates Still Living In Missouri"
It had names on it from several counties in Missouri. Joseph's name was on it along with his 2 brothers that
survived the war. Maybe, they were still considered a
threat, I don't know. Mike
