Re: CSA CPT John Drury Pulliam Howard Co. Area 186

The Abiel Leonard papers WHMC have indexed a lawsuit and corresopndence re Pulliam's of Saline County. Leonard was a contempary of John Pulliam both in time and stature and economics. May be something there to chew on if you can get to Columbia MO. Leonard and Jackman were involved in Whig politics pre war with each other.

Further evidence in the history of relations is that James F. Wilhite of Jackman's command father was Elias Wilhite who located to near Norton, Saline Co. MO with John Pulliam, J Drury's father from near Nasville TN. Wilhite and Pulliam served together on Jackman's staff.

"Copied from a clipping from the "Slater News Rustler"
In the vicinity of Norton, the first settlement was made in 1839 by Robert Brown, Matthias C. Gwinn, Elias Wilhite, Dudley Cooper, David Ford, Thomas Duggins, H. Swisher, John Pulliam, Samuel Wall and Owen T. Willis, from Va. & Tenn. And by Cuth. Hickman from Kentucky in 1840" See also 1881 history of Saline County MO.

James F. Wilheit (or Wilhite or Wilhite) was from Cooper County. He was captured at the Blackwater on 19 December 1861 and exchanged on September of 1862.

Mrs. CATHERINE PULLIAM born Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Feb. 6, 1815; had lived in Saline Co., MO for 85 years; daughter of Colonel Benjamin Chambers, a lad when the Revolutionary War began; became a colonel in the Continental Army; mention of one son, Luther Pulliam. [At the age of 58 years, in November 1821, BENJAMIN CHAMBERS, Saline Co., MO, applied for benefit as a Revolutionary war veteran, Pennsylvania Line; in his application he mentioned a seven-year-old daughter, Catherine, that later papers reveal married a Pulliam. He died in Saline County, August 26, 1850. See National Archives: Jane Chambers W10302.]

I'm convinced Pulliam with Jackman was John Drury Pulliam son of John C Pulliam of Saline County. Perhaps circumstantial evidence at this point but if we dig deep enough I'm sure we'll get there with proof.
