I am the great grandson of George Rufus Zimmerman who was killed on August 24, 1864. I am also the father of Brian Zimmerman who earlier today posted here.

I am out of town and do not have available the reference material that I have at home, so some of this may not be 100% correct

But, I would like to correct what I have read in some of the posts. Of course, I have no proof, just recollection of things told me by my father, grandson of George R. Zimmerman. I also obtained some of my information from a book written by Thomza Zimmerman, the wife of "Salty" Zimmerman of Advance, MO. I believe the title of the book was "A Place For Tomorrow." I interviewed Salty before he died. Sorry, I can't remember his name (other than the nickname) that is at home. He decended from one of the twins earlier mentioned

Fom all information I have, George Rufus was killed at his home (a farm) near Glen Allen in Bollinger County, MO on the night of August 24, 1864. The twins mentioned are not lineal ascendants of Brian. His great grandfather, my grandfather, Columbus N. Zimmerman was four years old when his father George R. was killed. But, he was present that night.

I have a copy of his military record and it shows George R. as a Captain, Co. B, 4th Infantry Regiment, Missouri State Guard. He was discharged in December 1861 and I can find no information as to his whereabouts from December 1861 till his death in August 1864.

I have never heard of a diary kept by my great grandmother, Mahala, so if one is ever located, I would be very interested in it's content.
