Co. K 3rd MSM

From Bicentenial History of Bollinger Co. Edited ML Hahn 1976, pg 98-99.

"... Company K , 3rd Missouri State Cavalry was recruited in Bollinger Coounty. Although organized for state service, it was subject to being placed wherever it might be needed, and Company K, therfore saw action all over southeast Missouri and northeast Arkansas. The following is a roster of Company K, using original spelling:
Capt. George Hummel; 1st Lieut. Erich Pape; 2nd Lieut. William Browner.

Young, Irvin Baily, John Clubb, Peter Shell, William James, Michael Allen, Henry Slagle, William Harris, William Winchester, James McEntee, Carmon Taylor, Griffin Massey, and David Hall."

In the same book pg 97-98
"Also in 1861, a Union Regiment to be known as the 83rd Battalion was begun but was never completed. The officers were as follows: Company A: Capt. James Rogers; Lieutenants, Levi M. Lincoln, and H.F. Rhodes. Company B: Capt Enoch Virgin; Lieutenants S.J. Lessley and John A Barks. Company C: Capt James Woodfin; Lieutenants Jonathan Couch and John Bess. Company D: Capt Erich Pape; lieutenants, Henry Samuels and James Stepp. Company E: Capt F.E. Whitner; lieutenant John Krimminger. Company F: Capt. W.A. Dunlap; lieutenants Henry Yount and Jacob Conrad. Company G: Capt. Andrew Horth"

It thus appears that there is little commonality between Co K 3rd MSM Cav and Cochran's Independent EMM Company. However it is interesting to note that both units drew heavily from the aborted formation of the 83rd "battalion" which I presume to be the 83rd E.M.M. Perhaps Cochran's unit was the "leftovers" from the 83rd? Note as well that Rogers, Levi Lincoln, and Rhodes (the aborted leadership of Company A above) are the 3 mentioned in family history in the murder of G. R Zimmerman a man who was a Capt of his own in the MSG in 1861
