Re: Fremont's cavalry at Springfield

There were several names for Zagonyi's unit that I have seen. In Jesse Benton Fremont's letters, she referred to the group as "Fremont Bodyguard" [note 2, p. 302 of Herr & Spence, The Letters of Jesse Benton Fremont." McElroy, in "The Struggle for Missouri" p. 227 calls it "Fremont's Bodyguard." Apparently in St. Louis, it was also considered to be Jesse Benton Fremont's Bodyguard. Jay Monaghan in "Civil War on the Western Border, 1854-1865" calls the unit the "Jesse Fremont Guard" (p. 183). And, of course there is also Jesse Fremont's "The Story of the Guard" to consult.
