Escape from Fort Davidson

I read an article in the April 74 CWTI that talked about how subterfuge was used to help the garrison escape. A brigade was pulled off for a meal at the request of a mysterious female and during this meal the garrison crept through the lines, even though they were surrounded. It was apparently originally written by T J Mackey in Nov 1895 in Monthly Home Illustrated. This is the first time I have ever heard of this. I have read several books (about Ft Davidson) and even looked in the OR but have not come across this before.

Has anyone come across this before or any info to prove or disprove?

Thanks
Frank
