1. ELSBERRY G GLOVER was born 1824 in Covington, Kentucky. He married ELIZABETH TIPTON, daughter of JAMES TIPTON. She was born 25 Sep 1821 in Kentucky, and died 08 Mar 1914 in Shamrock, Calloway, Missouri.

From Prisoner Rolls

Captured at home in Ralls County April 18, 1862. He was first taken to prison at Alton IL then sent to Cairo IL with a number of others and exchanged at Cairo on Nov 23, 1862. The transfer record from Alton to Cairo lists him as being a private in Brace's Battalion MSG.

Brace's Regt formed mid 1861 and fought at Lexington Sept 19-20 1861.

Shown as married with wife and Elizabeth in Bath Co KY in 1850 census, Has younger brother John living with him. Locates to Ralls Co MO between 1850 and 1860. Finds his way to Pike Co. MO by 1870 and shows up with family in 1880 in New Harmony, Twsp Pike Co. MO.

Following history of Theodore Brace/Braces Battalion:
"Organized a compnay of cavalry April 1861, elected Capt. Elected Lt. Col after consodiation with 3 other companies to form a battalion of cavalry. Elected Col. 3rd MO Cav of the second military district Sept 23, 1861. This regt was enlisted for 6 months in the state Guard and formed a part of the command of Gen. Price. Later enlisted in CSA participating in battle of Elkhorn. Captured and held 2 months at St. Louis - accepted a discharge under bond of $10,000 and returned to Paris MO."

"He engaged in enlisting an organizing a Reg. for service for the South. This Reg. became one of the best in the service in this state. The 3rd Mo. Cav. participated in many engagements in North Missouri and then took a leading part in the Battle of Lexington. He led his Reg. in final charge that resulted in capitulation of all of Mulligan's forces. After battle of Lexington the 3rd MO took an important part in Battle of Pea Ridge. Soon after Col. Brace was taken ill, and while in this condition was taken prisoner by the enemy. Was transfered to Myrtle St. Prison at St. Louis, but was finaly paroled as a prisoner of war."
