The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: William Columbus Anderson of Brownwood

I received a copy of this article this morning from a friend in Brownwood.

This piece of work was simply the story as presented by one individual and no real research was done by "long-time Editor Gene Deason". If he had, he would have known it was published first in the Brownwood Bulletin and he would not have used space with the San Antonio paper. He would have also known that the then Editor of the Brownwood Bulletin, William Mayes, was skeptical of the story and sent letters to Missouri inquiring if anyone recognized or could vouch for this tale. No known replies vere received to very this.
The article starts of with all of the same old tired conspiracy theories such as: John Wilkes surviving and living out his life in Granbury, Texas, Brushy Bill Roberts, aka. Billy the Kid, surviving and living out his years in Hico, Texas, Henry Ford, aka Jesse James living out his life in Brownwood, Texas, etc, etc.......
Then "serious" discussion about underground tunnels in Brownwood and KGC gold buried in Texas, etc.
By now you get the tone of the article. It was an interview with someone treasure hunting with no real historical significance or value.

It is easy to see why the moderator is cutting off all further messages about Bloody Bill living beyond 1864. I agree with him, this has gone on far too long with no real evidence to support or warrant any further discussion.
