Cass County Home Guard - George Lotspeich

I am a distant cousin of the Lotspeich family, and have had some email discussion with George's great-grandson who still lives in Cass County. My great-grandfather's uncle, Jackson Benton McFerrin was also killed in his front yard during the War.

Does anyone know much about the Cass County Home Guard? Perhaps now that I am retired I will do more research on them. I really suspect that some of them were closely related to Quantrill's men.
