In Response To: Indians in MO units ()

I recently completed the company rosters of the 6th Missouri Cavalry (CSA) also known as the 11th Missouri, commonly known as the Southwest Missouri Regiment. There are numberous listings of men in all ten companies who served in the regiment whose origins were from the Indian Territory. Company D had more than the usual number. The card entries for these men only state a place in the IT where they were recruited. There were several men who came from T. C. Hawpe's 31st Texas as well as a few mentions of men who came directly from Watie's regiment. One of these was a first Sergeant who died from disease in December 1862. Further, many who were scouts were imediately transferred in either September or October to Ben Elliott's Scout Battalion of Shelby's Brigade. Most of those names can be found in Bartel's work on the 9th Mo. Cavalry Regiment.
