I have been studying the Cass County Home Guard. I understand that when it was disbanded, many members went to the 2nd Battalion Militia Cavalry. Then that unit was disbanded, some went on to the 9th Kansas Cavalry. Looking at the rosters for several regiments, I have been able to find fairly good matches on a number of soldiers. Here is a list of the number I have found that may have served in various units after leaving the Cass County Home Guard:

The last two units are Wachman's Battery and the Pike County Home Guard. The latter is mostly to keep me honest. I think it is fairly unlikely that four soldiers from Pike County traveled all the way across Missouri to enlist in the Cass County Home Guard. More likely, they just had very similar names. Despite the difficulty caused by misspelled names, and some names that out shared by many people, I think the following is a fairly good list of the men from the Cass County Home Guard who may have gone on to serve in the 9th Kansas Cavalry:
