To read the Watts Hays Letters just click on the link below the message. There is a message on this board, I think, that lists the units John Rowland served in. I don't have the 9th in his file so you may be right. He was Margaret Hays' nephew and she called him "Bunyan". He was the son of Rev. George Washington Rowland and Margaret's half-sister, Letty Watts. The family moved to Kansas in about 1862.

There is a Louisa C. Porter in my file who married Charles Hamilton, Jr. in 1858. Charles Hamilton Jr. was the a brother of Rebecca Hamilton who married Margaret's uncle Richard C. Berry. Uncle Dick had a farm in Jackson Co. near the Hays farm and a store in Harrisonville which he lost in 1861 during the 1st Battle of Harrisonville. Charles Hamilton, according to my notes rode with Quantrill, Cole Younger and the James brothers and was killed in 1863. If anybody thinks that this was a Hamilton of a different family please correct me - but this Charles Hamilton Jr. lived in Cass Co. before the War.
