The father, Richard Samuel Kimberlin was called Sam or as Margaret Hays wrote Cousin Sam. He was married to her cousin Eliza Dickerson so was a cousin-by-marriage.
The son was Richard Samuel Kimberlin, Jr.

Mother since I finished my letter I have heard of the death of Cousin Sam Kinberlin(143). He lived near Blue Springs, he had been to the Southern Army. He had taken a load of corn to independence, they took him prisinor and sent him home, hung him in his barn. Also on the same day Sam Wear, Brother to old Billy Wear Learry Farmer(144) has been hung, Babtist preacher lived near Harrisonville(145) as good a man as ever lived, also one of Joe Sheltons son (Shot him, he was about fifteen years). Robed Green Shelton of everthing he had, came to him next morning wanted to sell his dishes to him. Mother I could tell you of hundreds of sutch cases. Farewell your Daughter Margaret

In my last letter I told you of them hanging cousin Sam Kimberlain. Hung him in his Barn. All of the Charges they had against him was outfitting his son to go with my husband.
