Ellen,

The Mo. SOS archives list both Joseph E.C. Defries and Calvin Norman in Co. E 51st Mo. and also in Co. E, August Budde, Sgt. Your post got our attention because some Oregon County partisans were captured by a patrol from the 7th Ks. cav. on June 15, 1865 and taken back to Pilot Knob. One of their non-coms stated in a letter to his wife "they will likely stretch hemp" but we have been unable to learn what actually happened to them. We wonder now if the Provost Marshal didn't send them to Leavenworth with an escort from the 51st. The 7th Ks. were likely too busy hunting two legged game to escort prisoners.
