That excerpt was from an address Bingham wrote after he was cricized for this "Order No. 11" painting, so it was after the war. My interpretation of that excerpt is that it refers to a raid conducted prior to Order No. 11, but I could certainly be wrong. I think that it has been established that Bingham got the specific sequence of events wrong in another account of his (Jennison's "parade" through KC as I recall), so I guess that is another possibility.

I vaguely remember running across an account of Union troops catching a number of guerillas in church one Sunday morning and killing quite a few of them. Do you have any knowledge of that event and where I might find some documentaion? Thanks.
