In M. Jeff Thompson's Memoirs. Thompson say's he reached Bonham Texas, passed through the town and camped a few miles from the town. That night a courier came to Thompson
with an order which stated Gen. Shelby and Staff had received a furlough and that Thompson would command the division until further orders. The next morning Thompson went to Shelby and Shelby gave private reasons for his actions.
If Thompson went to Shelby the next morning then Shelby must not have been far from Bonham Texas.
Foot note on the page states....The order placing Thompson in temporary command of Shelby's division, dated Nov. 24 (29?), 1864 is in the Thompson papers, State Historical Society of Mo.
