The first reference to Uncle Dickie was made by Billy Monks in his HISTORY OF SOUTHERN MISSOURI AND NORTHERN ARKANSAS. As to when he died, we know that after his son, Josiah was convicted of horse stealing, post war, Richard and his first wife, Mary, split the blanket and their farm was sold. In the 1870 Oregon County census Richard is living in the household of W.A. Sipes, his son-in-law.In the Oregon County marriage book he is shown as married to Mary Crabtree 5 June 1871. After that the paper trail gets dim.
Levi Boze was about 11 years old when A.P. and Martha Ann Couch took him and His cousin(13 yrs. old) to Dade County, Mo. for the duration of the war so they wouldn't be killed as bushwhackers.
No offence taken. Most folks post on these boards to learn more history.
