Thanks for posting the affidavits. I think I have read most of them before. I picked up a copy of "Quantrill in Texas" today. I thought Petersen's work was well documented and well researched. The biggest problem I had was with what he had to say about the Red River Campaign.

The way he paints the picture, Richard Taylor and a hell of a lot of soldiers from Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Louisiana had nothing to do with the outcome. Banks was simply turned back because Quattrill's Lieutenants took the cotton brokers to task. Sorry. I don't buy it. I think Samuel Burton McFerrin and the 9th MO Infantry should get a little of the credit for the outcome of the Battle at Mansfield.
