Ok; there is an Abshear in Butler county in 1850/60 census listing who I had tied to John F Abshear who died at Alton Prison in '64. Perhaps I'm mistaken in making that linkage. There is also a John and Issac Abshear/Abshire, brothers, from Wright county who served in the 73rd EMM and are clearly not the fellow you mention. I thought if John F was your guy then the prison records might shed some light on what unit and where captured etc...
