I have a reference in the Provost Marshal papers to a Joseph Lowe who was accused of disloyal talk in a saloon in the town of Rolla in Phelps County, Missouri. In the saloon where he was talking were some pictures of Quantrill. One picture showed citizens pursuing Quantrill and another showing Quantrill murdering a Union family. Lowe was arrested on February 13, 1865 for his remarks against the Union in regards to the pictures. My question is this, were these newspaper lithographs? I am not familiar with any book of Quantrill at that early date which might have illustrations. This is a tough one. Is there anyone who might be familiar with these picutres?
