The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: re Civil War deaths at hands of Bushwhacker

I, too, am looking for information on civilian deaths in Missouri. More specifically, Andrew County.

About 1852-53, Stephen and Anna Hill moved to Missouri. In 1860 they were settled on a farm in Jackson Township, Andrew County, Missouri. The Census taken in 1860 includes Stephen and Anna living next door to their son James HILL, 24, and his wife Sarah. Still living with Stephen and Anna were their other children William 21, Mahala 18, Margaret 15, Rebecca 13 (all born in Ohio), and George
7 and Jno. age 4, both reported as born in Missouri.

According to all records, Stephen and Anna Hill mysteriously disappeared after the 1860 Census. It is believed that Stephen and Anna were either killed by the Secessionists and/or the Unionists who occupied Andrew County, Missouri in 1861. A battle ensued and many people were slain. There is also a possibility it could have been the bushwackers/Quantrill's.

Stephen Hill was born in 1809 in Pennsylvania.
Anne (Anna) (Anderson) Hill was born in 1812 in Maryland.

Any help would be appreciated
