PRIME, Henry - Civil War Veteran?

I was part of the volunteer contingent placing flags at veterans' graves here in my hometown cemetery; and I was surprised to note a flag holder "Veteran 1861-1865" at the grave of my sword great-great-great-grandfather Henry PRIME (1809-1881). My gosh, I had no idea that he served. Indeed, he would have been 52 years of age at the beginning of the war. The grave is in Downing City Cemetery, Downing, Schuyler Co., MO. Could Henry have fought for Missouri or maybe Iowa, just eight miles north his home? Our location here is less than forty miles I would guess from the Battle of Athens, Clark Co., MO, site of the farthest north battle west of the Mississippi. I am a family researcher and had seen the aforementioned flag holder at my ancestor's grave in previous years but I am only today making my query. I had no knowledge that Henry Prime was a Civil War veteran.
