Re: Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Jarrott

Thank you for this information. Mary Francis Hedrick, later to be wife of Benjamin Franklin Jarrott named here as Franklin Jarrett, was married to a David Neeley from Holt County Mo prior to the war. He crossed over into Nebraska and join th 1st Regiment of Nebraska Volunteers and served with that unit until late in 1865 when he deserted and I have been not able to find furture reference to him. Mary Francis Hedrick (Neeley) married B. F. Jarrott (also a pre Civil War resident of Holt Coutny MO in 1868.

She and Jarrott moved to White Cloud KS and later to Rolo Nebraska. Family stories tell about her smoking a pipe, a habit she picked up when working in a Civil War hospital as a nurse or nurse aid. She took up the habit after often helping wounded soldiers to light their pipes.

Does anyone have any knowledge or records of a Civil War nurse named Mary Francis Hedrick Neeley and where she might have worked during the war? Family stories have it that they met during the Civil War when he was in a hospital and cared for by her.
