Mark, the dead probably lie at rest in a field at the site. During the course of researching the skirmish I pinpointed the site, and then visited it in 2001. The owner at that time had lived there for a number of years. He stated that when he originally took over the farm the vacating owner had told him there had once been a number of headstone remnants that had been tossed to the side of the field by a prior tenant. The area pointed out to me was close to where plat maps of the era indicated the apple orchard had been. As you may recall from your research, a number of the Federal troops were up in the trees gathering a snack when the attack occurred.

An alternative site to search would be the cemetery at Rocheport. The three companies (E, F, G) of 2nd Battalion, 3rd MSM Cavalry that were attacked were based, albeit very briefly, at Rocheport at the time. Perhaps the bodies were transported there.

My third guess would be to check around cemeteries in Columbia that date to the era. While Co.'s E, F, G were in the field constantly during that time frame, Company B, 3rd MSM was garrisoning Columbia. It was the only static base that any unit in the regiment had from the end of September thru the end of October. The rest of the regiment, including 2nd Battalion, were in the field through the end of October due to Sterling Price. Getting to the point, being on garrison duty a half-day's ride from Goslin's Lane, perhaps the men of Company B took care of the bodies of their comrades.

One other option that occurs to me would be to look through the pension files of the widows and children of the casualties. Perhaps burial information is contained in the pension applications, or in an affidavit in support of the pension provided by some of the comrades of the casualties (Maybe something to the effect that "I have knowledge that the applicants husband was killed in action because I arrived on the scene, viewed his body, and helped bury him....").

This all is mostly speculation, but that's the fun of researching--testing out theories and then confirming or debunking those theories. If you find out anything, please let us know.
