for a thread on above. The best account is in the Erastus Hill court record which is missing /misfiled with the Stoddard County Historical Society as of 14 months ago when I went looking for it. There are supposedly transcriptions of the court account out there but I've not seen one as yet. Kirby Ross's annotation in Hildebrands Diary spells it out nicely as well. The shooting occured on the Walker Farm Southeast of Bloomfield. Former Union Capt. Thomas B. Walker was killed after putting lead in the gut of Barnes as barnes entered the cabin or on the porach there of. Walker is buried in the Walker family cemetery in Stoddard County which is on the farm.

Email me and I'll forward what I have on the Barnes / Bayless family as my wife is a direct descendent. I've not found out for sure where Reuben was buried but suspect he is at Knoblick Cemetery (old section behind church foundation )in south St. Francois Co.
