I've got a James H. Childs (1838, MO) with wife Margaret in the 1895 Kansas State Census, Wyandotte, Argentine Ward 2 Line 7, pg 25. Sadly no military information is listed for him or anyone else for that matter on that census.

This appears to be the same James Childs born in Boone Co. MO (1850 Census) to James and Catherine Childs of Kentucky. He appears in the 1900 Census in Platte County MO, Pettis township, page 130, dwelling 278. There is also a matching entry in the 1880 Census Platte Co Waldron Twship dwelling 105.

This appears to be the correct James H. childs, as his widow filed for a pension under the name of Margaret P. Childs to the state of Missouri for James H Childs service in Co E 15th Kansas Cav. pension number 529484 app #751270. Nov 5 1901. earlier per the pension card James H had applied to Kansas as an invalid app #666540 and granted #451498 on Aug 1 1888.

There is a bit of confusion online as there is a James Harrison Childs also in Platte County 1870-1900 married to a Sara J. and a James H Childs in St. Clair County MO. all three carry birthdates in 1837/38 and as usual folks have scrambled the 3.

On his elistment to the 15th KS his home is listed a Platte Co KS.

FWIW
