William Field Hill

According to Nebraska records, William Field Hill, DOB: December 25, 1838, Ohio, enlisted in the 4th Missouri (State Militia) Infantry, Company E, but I cannot find anything to prove that he was in that Company other than the Nebraska burial information. Did this Company participate in any battles? Was William wounded? Family history said he was, but there are no pension records. William died January 20, 1921 in Union, Nebraska and is buried in the Lewiston Cemetery in Union, Nebraska. There is nothing etched in his stone about William being in the Civil War, BUT every Memorial Day, the GAR puts up the brass GAR shield with a flag.

I would appreciate any help.
