Jane,

Part of the tragedy of the Lone Jack fight is that nearly all the southern forces were men recruited over those weeks in July and August 1862, and not all the recruiting commands had written down the men's names. Part of the mystery of the Civil War in Missouri were the many men who simply disappeared after leaving home, and the families waited in vain for years to hear what became of their loved ones.
