As to where I found out about these men being taken prisoner, a distant cousin told me she had found out about Jesse Hooten being taken prisoner and dying at Alton, IL prison (she didn't cite her source) and then I followed up and looked at the Alton Prison website that listed the prisoners that were there, and found Jesse Hooten. I found a newspaper article from the Jefferson City Missouri Examiner dated 27 Sep 1862, page 2, column 1, that told of the capture of my two relatives, Benjamin and James P. Harmon being taken prisoner along with 19 other men that were listed by name.
