You found it! Good work. I still hold to what I wrote back on 21 May that they tacked a picture on the wall from a recent issue of Leslie's or Harper's illustrated newspaper of a guerrilla and somebody else wrote that caption to it. Otherwise, I know of no such picture of Quantrill murdering a Union family, unless it was the cover of a pulp magazine of that day. People then and now love to write about Quantrill and they don't always let the truth get in their way.

By the way, I stay away from that post Civil War outlaw stuff, but I seem to remember a tough named Lowe who ran a saloon in one of the bad Kansas cowtowns after the war that got killed fighting against one of those big name gunfighters. I seem to recall that he was called Joe Lowe, too. This Lowe certainly wasn't afraid to shoot his mouth off in front of people he knew would not agree with him. Maybe he had enough moxy (and not sense) to get through this scrape and run a saloon in a Kansas cowtown postwar, too.
