Would someone give an explanation at to what constituted Home Guard units in Missouri during the war? Does this refer to Union or Missouri State Guard forces? Were there pro-South Home Guard units made up of older men (35 and above) who stayed in one county or another to protect the property of citizens from bushwhackers or other hostile groups while others joined regiments headed to battle?
