I was able to view most of McPheeters online for the march from Cane Hill AR to North Texas. I believe the general route through the Indian Territory was from Cane Hill into the Cherokee Nation to the Arkansas River about 15 miles up from Ft Smith AR at a crossing called Wilson's Rock. The 2nd CO Cav followed as far as this point. The Confederates crossed the river into the Choctaw Nation and marched west to North Fork Town, Creek Nation, near where the town of Eufaula OK is now located. From this point Shelby foraged to the northwest into the southwestern Creek Nation. The retreating troops marched down the Texas Road from North Fork Town to Boggy Depot, Choctaw Nation and crossed the Red River into Texas via either Kemp's Ferry or Colbert's Ferry -- near where US Hwy 69/75 now cross.
