Thanks for your message and the recommendation, Kirby, I did not realize that there were useful comments in the muster rolls. Though now that I think about it, there were useful comments in the muster rolls of the Revolutionary War, so why wouldn't there be the same during the Civil War?
Would you please expand upon the note that these men must have been of "unusual character and temperament" ? This is not a trick question, I have the same feeling from reading the pension applications. They seem very cagey about their service, but that's just my impression.
Many soldiers go on and on about where they were, and what they did, and etc etc etc...these men don't seem to do that. There is almost no detail.
