I don't have a witness report. The only report I have I printed last night, even though I don't have all of it. Anybody can find it in the Broadfoot set "Supplement to the 'O.R.'" in volume 34 (of about 100)on pages 453-4. The larger libraries in towns and colleges have this set. Personally, I would like to know what the rest of it says myself, especially if it names the writer.

I forgot to also quote the "Army Historic Register" vol. 7 pages 1-2 about the death of 1LT Miller. It says under officers who died while in service with the 1st MO Cav: "First Lieut. George B. Miller, killed April 28, 1862." They probably got that from the regimental record, so this doesn't add much.

I found more in the MO Adjutant General Report for 1865 on pages 308-9 in the Historical Memoranda for the regiment. It says how the regiment operated in separate parts with Major J. W. Hubbard having Companies B, H, I, and L, all in the 2nd Battalion. They did lots of scouting while stationed at Otterville, in the SW corner of Cooper County near the Morgan County line in December and January. This battalion also distinguished itself fighting Confederate Colonel Poindexter's recruiting command at Silver Creek, Randolph County on 8 Jan 62. This battalion also did good service around the Rolla area of SW MO. This also states on page 308 that "twelve companies have been recruited from different parts of the country."

I also see in Earl J. Coates and Dean S. Thomas' 1990 little book "An Introduction to Civil War Small Arms" in the appendix at the back that the 1st Mo Cavalry was armed with Colts revolving rifles on page 92 and on page 95 Joslyn revolvers. You may wish to check that with other sources.

If you think 1LT Miller may be from Indiana, has anybody checked with Indiana archives about that?
