In Response To: 37th EMM ()

Mark,

The 37th EMM was mostly a Lincoln County outfit and from its inception in August 1862 to the dismantling of the EMM program in March 1865 served almost entirely in the Lincoln County area guarding, scouting, and the like primarily from the county seat of Troy. On 12 October 1864 part of Company C near Clarksville in SE Pike County ambushed Young's guerrilla band that was on its way to take the militia weapons stored at Clarksville. The Union district commander wrote that the 37th was one of the best EMM regiments in his command area. Except for some Confederate recruiting in Lincoln County once or twice this county remained rather quiet throughout the war compared to surrounding ones. The 37th may have been most of the reason for this.
