Thomas M Sare born 1840 in Maryland is found in the 1850 Holt Co, MO census with siblings and mother Catharine Sare. The family unit apparently moved to Holt Co. sometime in 1950 as Thomas M Sare's little sister Catharine at 1 year of age is listed as being born in Wisconsin. No mention of his father is found other than the 1910 census listing stating he is from England. Not much is known of the family until Thomas M's enrollment in Company C 9th MO Cav MSM as you have indicated. He marries Sara Ellen Powell (b: 2-2-1844, Griggsville, Pike Co., Illinois, d: 12-23-1915, Mound City, Holt, MO) post war. She being the daughter of Harvey and Deliah [Wells] Powell. Sometime between 1866 and 1874 Thomas and Sara take up residence in Nebraska where their son Charles Edwin Sare is born 7-8-1874 (died 7-8-1961 Riverside CA). Thomas M is found in several Nebraska Census lists including the 1885 State census, the 1890 vet census and an 1891 supplemental all Falls City Richardson Co. He and his wife returns to Benton Twsp, Holt Co Missouri to live with son Charles and he passes away between mid 1910 and 1915. His wife Sara successfully applies for and recieves a widows pension for Thomas's service with the 9th MSM.

As for the 9th MSM, I'm not the unit history sort but I believe this was Col Guitar's regiment and was split into a number of detachments through out north Missouri and had a number of run ins with Anderson, Todd, and Quantril as well as involment in the area during Price's 1864 sojurn into the state.
