ABOUT ONE OF MY ANCESTOR

March 9,1863 Deputy Sheriff JESSIE MORIN AND HIS SON A YOUTH OF 18 YEARS and another deputy proceeded to FARLEY, MISSOURI for the purpose to arrest a man name oliver BASOM for which there was a writ and was indicted by the grand jury for larcony. They arrived in town surrounded BASOM'S house which had three doors. At which each of the said parties posted themselves to prevent escape.SHERIFF MORIN knock on the door and inquired if BASOM was home a evasive answer was given by his wife.Some noise was heard about in the house,just at that moment the back door at which young MORIN was station was thrown violently open by BASOM who fired two shots from his revolver which was singular hitting young MORIN in the thigh.SHERIFF MORIN and the deputy rush around the house BASOM fired twice which he was 10 steps distance ,sheriff and the deputy fired several times hitting basom who lived 3 hours.
BASOM was considered a notorious character

COL PRICE arrived with a detachment of the militia having been reported a squad of desperadose from LEAVENWORTH was coming over hear to the town of farley and arrest two citizens.The e.m.m. of this town commanded by capt CARRINGTON WERE WELL ARM AND EQUIP TO MATCH ANY red legs' come this way.The death of BASOM created much exitemont in LEAVENWORTH false statements by one or two men in FARLEY and that several parties avowed their determination to revenge his death.
QUESTION ; DOES ANYONE KNOW THE HISTORY OF THIS EVENT AND CAN ANYONE ELABORATE FURTHER DETAILS
