Thank you for the message. I was unaware of the Camp Fremont Register, and I will look into that
source. It could very well be a very valuable source of information. I do have the McCall record
of his 3 years service. He mentions that the 11th Missouri was involved with some actions in September
and October 1861, but he doesn't mention Dallas or a soldier dying.
The only mention of action is a skirmish at Dallas on September 2, 1861. The information on the soldier
is that Pvt. Morris Denezet was killed in a skirmish on September 24, 1861 at Dallas, Missouri. This is from
his service record.
I am just interested in finding our more about the first death in action in this regiment.
An interesting and sad note about the 11th Missouri was that the first recorded death in the regiment was Samuel
Brown, private in Company G, who drowned because he had just received his new uniform. He decided to bathe in
the Mississippi River so that he would not be dirty when he put on his new uniform.
