Re: tn. confederate in mo. records
Thank you all so much I did get the help I needed from very helpful folks on this site. And I do want to thank them very much I have his records now .
But I would like to ask as Sterling Nunn served in the Confederate army 61st. Company H. Tn. Infantry . Joined in 1862 was captured in 1863 at Vicksburg paroled in 1863 then in 1865 it shows he was in Claiborne Co. Tn. were he lived during the war. His records show him as a deserter IN 1865 and that he did take the oath to the united states. I guess my ? is I want to place a stone or medallion on his unmarked grave is this the right thing to do or should I just not do anything .I dont want to disrespect any confederate or union vetern .
As I understand his records and what was going on in this time frame he served his unit from 1862 to 1863 was captured with many other soliders at Vicksburg . Now I do know that by 1863 the south was running low on money to run its armys mamy hungry, barefoot men wished to go home . So Sterling was paroled from Vicksburg a few weeks after his capture . And in signing this parole he said he would not take up arms in any way against the United States . Then in 1865 records say he was a deserter and did sign oath to the united states . IF HE WAS YOURS WOULD YOU PLACE A STONE OR NOT . I REALY THINK I STILL WANT TO .
