Some other Morgan County men are reported to have gone into ARK or one of the other Confederate states to sign up. Those good ole boys got around a lot more than we would expect, considering their transportation.
In the Morgan County Historical Society Museum at Versailles, we have the diary of Wm. (Billy) Kavanaugh where he details about six of the Morgan Co. boys. Except for him, most all died or were wounded during the long months they served and over a very wide area of the south along the Trans-Mississippi.
When reading accounts, it appears that groups of buddies or friends from the same neighborhoods joined up at the same time, and in some cases, stayed together for much of their service time. They appear to have "looked after each other" as best they could under wartime circumstances.
