Elaine, The Samuel L Lance that was in the 29th Infantry Co I, died in the hospital at Paducah Kentucky, in May of 1863 and is buried in the National Cemetery at Mound City Illinois, ( http://www.cem.va.gov/CEMs/nchp/moundcity.asp a very nice palce to visit by the way) just across the river from Paducah and the scene of a major boat building dry dock and camp. The place of origin of the USS Cairo of Vicksberg fame.

His SOS service card is here:

Sadly many of those that died at Paducah were initially buried there and then re-interred at Mound City. Some 2700 are so unknowns are subsequently at Mound City and I'm afraid Samuel Lance may be one of those as I could not find a VA graves listing him by name.
