John W. Kinder, who appears to be a brother of one of my ggg grandmothers, is listed in the Missouri military records online as being in the 3rd Battalion Missouri Infantry/6th Missouri Infantry Regiment (CSA). These state he enlisted on January 4, 1862, and fought at Lexington and Elk Horn. I know of the action at Lexington in 1861, in which Price defeated the Federals -- was there also an action at Lexington in 1862, in which the 3rd Battalion/6th Regiment would have participated?
His time in the unit was short-lived. His card for the 6th Missouri states he was left sick at Stoney Point, Arkansas on April 9, 1862. I understand this was around the time Sterling Price took the 6th Missouri's brigade accross the Mississippi. The card for the 3rd Battalion shows a Nov/Dec 1862 muster roll stating he deserted in Arkansas on April 10, 1862.
