John:

Help me out here a bit;

Is this Thomas Inman son of James Inman born abt 1844/45? Found with family in Moniteau county 1860 and 1850 Census? If it is, then his older brother James Jr. has quite a track record in the MO Provost Files and eventually was banned to Wisconsin.

As to Anderson Smith, most likely fit is Anderson B Smith of Dekalb Co. Missouri. He also shows up with James Inman in Provost Marshal files as prisoner in Moniteau Co. His Cousin was Capt. Anderson C. Smith. see

It appears he was a commissary officer and recruiter that was in Missouri in 64 and thus missed his muster with 3rd MO Inf CSA. He was Capt of Co E.

If the Smith obit gives a birth or death date or wife's name I can likely tease this out for you.
