First I want to thank you and all the others who have responded to this subject. I am researching our family's history on my husbands side. My husband is John E. Staton; His father is Hugh Joe Staton the son of Augustus Lee Staton and Florence Mahaffey. Florence 's mother is Katherine Gregg who is the sister of Elizabeth Gregg who married Sam Kimberlin. We believe Sam's brother Richard Kemper Kimberlin married Katherine's sister Sam Belle Gregg. According to Paul R Petersen's book on Quantrill, Richard Sam Kimberlin sr had been neutral. But all the children saw him hanged in 11/1882 and then rode with Quantrill. Family story says that at one time when Sam was extremely ill and close to death, Frank James came to visit him. Sam is buried in the Fairhaven cemetry in Orange California where my inlaws Hugh and Chloe Staton are buried. Lee and Florence are buried in Orange Co in a different cemetry. I would certainly appreciate the pictures you mentioned and any further information you have on Sam. Thanks to you and the others who responded.
