Re: 8th Inf. Reg't Missouri (Union)

The service Card posted for Hugh Cain of (West) Virginia is actually Cornelius Huff Cain of Ritchie (West) Virginia born 1836 in Virginia. He is found in the 1850 and 1860 census reports in Ritchie Co Virginia then finds his way to Moniteau Co Missouri in 1870 and 1880. 1900 and 1910 census reports him in Seattle King Co. Washington. He marries Elizabeth Francis Stinnet in 1865 in Ritchie Co WV. There is an Elizabeth F. Cain that files for and gets a widows pension in Oct 1916 from the State of Washington under Cornelius H. Cain for service in teh WV infantry.

There is also a Cornelius H Cain alias Hyatt C Cain (native of Ireland born abt 1833) that files for a invalid pension and eventually a widows pension is issued from the State of Missouri. This gentleman and woman named Emma is found in the 1880 Census in Vernon County Oklahoma. He is clearly different than the above and his service record does not match either with units served or age.
