The first movie to offer a fact-based portrayal of the War for Southern Independence and include a forthright portrayal of a Black Confederate soldier was "politically corrected" for your convenience.
The 37th documented the USA Film distributor's efforts to bury a critically-acclaimed film by delaying release for almost a month past the critical Christmas season, limiting nationwide distribution to only about 200 theaters, and delaying the scheduled May 2000 video release date.
Now we see the reason for the video release delay until July 18, 2000 - a change in graphic design of the DVD cover has removed the "inconvenient" image of Jeffrey Wright as a Black Confederate soldier.
When contacted for comment writer/producer James Schamus responded: "We asked them to change the cover back but they didn't -- js"
