Moses Levi/Lee James is listed as Major 6th Cav MSM enliting April 1862 at Cameron Missouri and resigning October 13, 1862.

Moses Levi "Lee" JAMES was born on 13 Dec 1825 in Anderson Co., Kentucky. He died on 17 Oct 1886 in Caldwell Co., Missouri. He was buried in Kingston Cemetery, Caldwell, Missouri. Moses came to Missouri before the Mormon insurrection in 1838. He served with the Union army in the Civil War. He is identified as Otis Levi James in son John's death certificate. He was a breeder of high-grade stock including "Talley," the fastest horse in Missouri at that time.

Moses was elected sheriff of Caldwell County but he refused to accept the office.
Spouse: Mary Eleanor BUTTS. Moses Levi "Lee" JAMES and Mary Eleanor BUTTS were married on 12 Feb 1845 in Caldwell Co., Missouri. Children were: Thomas William JAMES, John Milton JAMES, Hattie Elizabeth JAMES.
